a smiling blonde woman dressed in white with red slippers is riding on a gaily decorated white horse - the tack is red with golden loops. She's holding onto the reins with her right hand and holding up a stave with her left which has a green wreath tied off with a red bow attached to the top of it. Five other wands spring up behind her, and she has another green wreath on her head.
The card of 'victory' - this one looks like a Christmas parade with all the white, red, and green. The woman is clearly smiling and if she weren't holding that stave, she'd be offering a Vanna White wave to the cheering crowd.
You know what? My day hasn't been exactly victorious - my car's steering belt broke while I was out picking up my daughter for work. There was exactly one thing I wanted to get done today, which was to buy a trashcan to keep neighborhood dogs out of my garbage - and we were able to do that, but it's still in the back of my car. Which is stuck in a parking lot three miles away until I can get someone to fix it for me. Let's not even talk about what even a small expense for the car does to my budget right now.
So, this card is suggesting to me to start looking for some silver linings...what are my victories?
- we didn't get hurt, or run into anyone when the steering suddenly locked.
- we were able to find a safe place to leave the car.
- I wasn't by myself (mobility issues and no cell - I'd have been very stranded)
- a local friend was able to come pick us up and offer some advice on how to get it fixed. Having friends willing to help is a huge victory.
- I am not actually totally broke, so I don't have to wait two weeks to buy a belt.
- my son in law does work on cars, so I probably won't need to wait til forever to afford to have it fixed.
- I have a trashcan and eventually I'll be able to use it, solving a longstanding problem.
- my houseguest let me blow up in a yelling, cursing explosion fest and didn't actually decide to dump me into the nearest ditch... did I mention how good it is to have friends, even when I don't deserve them?
- home safe, good meal, problem is a problem but not an overwhelming crisis - I've got more resources for dealing with this than I would have if it'd happened even three days ago.
So, I may not exactly be smiling as widely as this woman on the card, but I'll take my victories where I can find them.
