I'm doing it again - stalling updating because there's a little glitch in my self imposed rules for posting here. Right now the 'rule' is - it's Halloween Week and I want to use my Halloween Tarot deck. And... *gasp!* I can't find it.
I am absolutely positive it will turn up, ohhh, somewhere mid-November. But I don't want to stay silent just because it isn't the way I'd like it, so time to give up. I'm going to put the poor neglected Bright Ideas Deck to bed today with a reading, and then I'll switch to the Tarot of the Dead tomorrow and use that instead.
I do want to share this spread though - I came up with it more or less on the fly last night in order to have a Halloween themed spread for our Saturday night Practical Tarot group in Second Life. I've found that one of the easiest and most fun ways to play with themed spreads is to look at a more generic spread with your metaphoric theme in mind - under the Halloween language, this is a nice, simple goal-oriented spread that gave us some good readings last night.
In our readngs, we left the subject open - let the spread decide the issue to be discussed. I think it would work either way - if you have a topic in mind, simply let that first card reveal something significant to you about your goal... your motivatins or whatever.
Here's the spread, and I'll be doing my reading later today:
......5......
..3......4..
......2.....
......1.....
1. What do you want in your Halloween bag? (what is your goal?)
2. What costume are you wearing? (what role are you playing as you work toward that goal?)
3. Tricks (what is in your control - what 'tricks' can you do to work toward your goal?)
4 Treats (what isn't in your control - what 'treats' come to you without your effort?)
5 What do you take home? (what comes to you from this experience?)
If you play with, do me a favor and post a comment - let me know if you found it to be useful, or fun - I think this would be a great spread for a Halloween party, because it gives a 'real' reading in a fun setting.
